‘Journalists come here and write that because we have televisions and cola in our fridges we should have nothing to complain about’, says one of the mothers. ‘Our husbands work many hours, and sometimes don’t get paid. They cannot protest because they have no legal work permits. My heart is black because there is no hope left. Nothing changes. Thanks to the British we have housing and some benefits but what we want is a real life. To see other people, speak the local language, move freely, work legally, have a future for our children.’
