The families currently residing in Richmond Village still face an uncertain future. Neither the British Sovereign Base Areas nor the Cyprus Republic are willing to compensate them for their decade in legal limbo and they are understandably reluctant to accept the status of newly arrived asylum seeker in Cyprus. Meanwhile, the UK government is currently deporting Kurds back to northern Iraq and the Kurdish Autonomous Area, regions it now deems ‘safe’.
