In 2007 these migrants, mostly single men, staged a series of high profile protests on the British military bases. Eventually in October 2007 bulldozers entered Richmond Village and targeted the houses of the protesters. British forces began the eviction process by cutting the electricity and water supply (which also affected the neighbouring families) and removing doors and windows until the houses were uninhabitable. Said says: ‘We are afraid they will do to us what they did to the others. But we would rather die here than be forced into the Cyprus Republic with nothing, having to start the asylum process from scratch after ten years’.
